Who: Karan Janabi Sharifi
What: 16-month internship as a Manufacturing/Process Engineer
Where: Celestica Corporation
When: May 3, 2010 to August 26, 2011
How: I applied to Celestica Inc. late December 2009 and I received an interview on February 2010. As one might know, job interview processes are pretty stressful. However I tried to be calm and responded to all the questions as best as I can. Thankfully I was offered the position shortly thereafter.
Celestica Corporation offers a wide range of internship positions through the business. In early 2010, I was granted an engineering internship position at Celestica Toronto for the duration of 16 months beginning in May 2010. The internship position placed me in a customer focused team (CFT), which served a single customer, who provided end-to-end telecommunication systems worldwide.
As a Process engineer, I worked closely with a team of three other engineers. The position included a variety of responsibility in a wide range of areas. It included the responsibility of contacting the customer and designing a layout for the new factory floor, implementation of a new process for new products, maintaining manufacturing process instructions, controlling process change notifications, root cause analysis and corrective action studies, development and maintenance of tooling, and inspection processes. The position involved furthering experience in communication and interaction with direct labor as well as indirect labor.
My employment at Celestica Corporation has assisted me in not only expanding my skill set but improving many of the skills I currently exhibit. Professional development has grown significantly in the sixteen months, and has contributed to an improved work ethic, stronger communication ability and to a realistic understanding of corporate work structure, social system and environment. The experience gained has been personally positive and rewarding as well as educationally beneficial.
